En noviembre del pasado 2016, la UNESCO (Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura) declaró a la rumba cubana “Patrimonio Inmaterial de La Humanidad” reconocimiento que equivale a la ascensión a la cima de una montaña, no exenta de piedras y espinas, que desde el Siglo XIX viene remontando la rumba, la cubanísima expresión musical, nacida entre descendientes de esclavos, despreciada, repudiada, incomprendida, para después ser aplaudida en los mejores escenarios del mundo.
La madre Rumba, orgullo del folclor urbano en Cuba, tiene tres hijos: el yambú, el guaguancó y la columbia, algunos nacieron en el solar, otros en la campiña, pero todos fueron creciendo y fortaleciéndose venciendo el cansancio del machete y la guataca o el agotador trabajo de cargar decenas de sacos en los muelles de La Habana y Matanzas. Cuando los trabajadores exhaustos llegaban al solar o al caserío y se encontraban con sus mujeres o parejas rumberas, también exhaustas de la batea o cocinar cantinas, hacer trabajos domésticos, lo que sea para llevar comida a la mesa, la magia de la rumba se hacía presente y al sonar una tumbadora, o un cajón de madera, se armaba la rumba y aún quedaba estamina para exhibir habilidades y bailar hasta que el estropeado cuerpo se aliviara en el baño con un cubo de agua fría para caer en la cama, a asimilar el trago de ron y dormir profundamente hasta que, aún a oscuras, tener que volver a la labor.

El CD “Miguel Barnet: 50 años de Cimarrón”, grabado en los estudios Areíto de la Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM), fue presentado recientemente en el espacio Dialogar Dialogar de la Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS) en el habanero Pabellón Cuba.
El disco, idea original de la periodista y promotora cultural Ana Llerena, recoge pasajes de la novela testimonio “Biografía de un Cimarrón” en la voz de su autor y establece un valioso contrapunto con la música seleccionada.
La voz de la extraordinaria e inolvidable cantante folklórica Merceditas Valdés, secundada por los tambores del conjunto Yoruba Andabo, fragmentos de “Cantos Yoruba de Cuba”, de Héctor Angulo, interpretados a guitarra por el boliviano Pirai Vacca y “Espirituales Cubanos”, conforman la placa producida por el discógrafo Jorge Rodríguez.

Digging Deeper: Intro to Afro-Cuban Guitar | Premier Guitar
The history of Cuban music is shaped through the passion of the people and musicians. Understanding their rich language of rhythms and harmony on any instrument, let alone guitar, is both a deep ocean to explore and an island of soul. Many great musicians grow up immersed in the style and culture. However, even if you learn just from listening and playing you can internalize the sense of groove and pocket, and it will come out in your listening, playing, and writing. I played in a Latin band called Umbalaye for several years in Los Angeles under the guidance of my friend and bandleader Jose Espinosa. I hope to share some of what I learned with you here.
First, a little history. Afro-Cuban music was created when African slaves arrived in Cuba, where the two cultures met, and the richness of Spanish harmony blended with the African rhythms to create what we call salsa music. Afro-Cuban music has had a vast influence globally through Puerto Rico, Miami, New York, and through such South American countries as Panama, Columbia, and Venezuela. These cultures each had their own interpretations that often influenced each other. In the 1930s, Afro-Cuban music had a major impact on jazz, and since then, salsa has profoundly influenced pop music, blues, soul, and even rock styles.

Historical tour of Yoruba Andabo in the U.S.A postponed to January 2016
Yoruba Andabo wishes to apologize to all its friends and public in the United States for postponing the tour scheduled for this November, for reasons beyond the control of the company, the involved institutions, and the organizers and promoters; The Yoruba Cuba Association, The Adinkra Group, and The Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation.
A delay in the processing of our visas prevented us from bringing the best of our art to you. We regret any inconvenience caused.
All of the involved parties are working very hard to schedule the presentations and workshops for January 2016 and to fulfill our commitment established with the people of the United States.
We are very grateful for your understanding and never ending support, and we await you without fail in January.

Yoruba Andabo se presentará el domingo 18 de octubre en el célebre teatro Teresa Carreño, en la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela. Estrenará temás musicales de su nuevo album titulado Soy de la Tierra Brava.
Yoruba Andabo interpretará La Gozadera, tema musical del filme Havana Instant, en el cierre del concierto que brindara el domingo 18 de octubre en el célebre teatro Teresa Carreño, en la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela.
